What we do
Five ways to a better lawn
Lawns are the whole of our work, so every job gets the groundwork it needs. Pick the one that sounds like your garden, or ask us and we will tell you honestly which one it needs.
-
Lawn replacement
Your old lawn lifted, the soil dug over and levelled, and fresh turf laid and rolled. Our most asked for job.
-
Turf laying
A brand new lawn on a new build plot, a cleared garden or a reshaped bed, laid on ground prepared for it.
-
Lawn levelling
Humps, hollows and slopes worked out so the mower runs true and water stops pooling.
-
Lawn seeding
A seed bed raked fine and sown for big areas, shady corners and thin lawns that need thickening.
-
Artificial grass
Synthetic turf on a compacted, free draining base for gardens where real grass struggles.
Why our lawns take, and keep looking good
-
Proper preparation
The old grass comes off, the soil is dug over, levelled and firmed before a single roll goes down. That is where most lawns are won or lost.
-
High quality materials
Good turf and good topsoil, so the new lawn roots quickly into ground that suits it.
-
No subcontracting
The people who quote your lawn are the people who lay it. Nobody you have not met turns up on the day.
-
Aftercare guidance given
Every new lawn is rolled once it is laid, and you get clear advice on watering and first mowing so it settles well.
Who we are
A lawn company, not a jack of all trades
Turf Norwich is run by James Steven Landscapes & Lawns, a family name that homeowners around Drayton and Norwich already know for lawns. We set up Turf Norwich so that people looking for turf and nothing else could find the team that does it every week.
With 15 years experience behind us, we know how Norfolk soil behaves: light and sandy in places, heavy clay in others, and almost always full of builders' rubble on a new estate. We deal with what is under the grass first, because that decides how the lawn looks in a year's time.
Expect clear communication from the first call, honest pricing with no fuss, and respect for your home while we are working in it.

-
Step 4: Aftercare
We walk you through watering and when to mow, so the roots get down into the soil before the summer.
FAQs
Turfing questions we hear most
Something else on your mind? Ask us when you request your quote, or call 01603 265243.
How long does it take to replace a lawn?
Most installations take one to three days, depending on the size of the garden, the access and how much preparation the ground needs.
When is the best time of year to lay turf in Norwich?
Autumn and spring are the easiest, because the ground is warm and moist. Turf can be laid through much of the year as long as it is watered well in dry spells and the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.
Should I choose turf or seed?
Turf gives you a finished lawn straight away and copes with use sooner. Seed costs less on materials and suits big or shady areas, but takes longer to establish. We will tell you which suits your garden.
How soon can we walk on a new lawn?
Keep traffic to a minimum for the first two to three weeks while the roots take hold. Gently lift a corner: if it resists, the roots are knitting into the soil.
Do you take the old lawn away?
Lifting and removing the old grass is part of a lawn replacement. We will confirm in your quote exactly what is being cleared and taken away.
Ready for a lawn you are proud of?
Tell us about your garden and we will come and look, measure up and give you a free quote. No subcontracting: the team that quotes is the team that lays.
